Grants Program Update, August 2023
The Sia Foundation has grant funding available for community contributors! The Grants Program was created to fund research, development, developer tools, and anything else that will support and further our mission of user-owned data while enriching the Sia ecosystem.
Just design a proposal that meets our requirements, submit to our forums, and wait for review by our grants committee. If your grant gets approved, you’re on your way to creating the next great project on the Sia storage network.

The Current State of Grants
Since last month, we’ve approved three new grants in the Sia ecosystem. What we loved about these new proposals was their size — they’re all small grants of less than $10,000 USD that are designed to either prove feasibility of an idea or simply add a cool new tool for Sia users.
We find a lot of value in these small grants. While we appreciate, and have approved, larger grants up to and over $100,000, they are typically big projects with big goals. They’re more demanding to track and evaluate and the proposals are sometimes tougher to dissect. They absolutely have their place in the Sia ecosystem, and we have some incredible larger projects being developed. But the committee is really happy to see them balanced out by some of these smaller projects showing up lately.

New Proposal: Proxmox Feasibility Study
What is it?
A feasibility study to look at the possibility of integrating Sia as a storage medium for Proxmox backups.

We really appreciated proposer rdwild working with us on this one. The original proposal raised some questions from the committee regarding the technical implementation of Sia in Proxmox, so rdwild graciously backtracked into a “can we do this?” study first — a great way for the committee to better evaluate something that they don’t have a ton of info readily available on.
New Proposal: hostd Monitoring Service
What is it?
A small-scale proposal, hoping to create a service that notifies an individual when their host goes offline.

The committee saw the value in another tool for host reliability and stability, and was happy to approve this grant request.
New Proposal: hostd Prometheus Exporter
What is it?
Another small grant, aiming to make an exporter to collect hostd data with Prometheus and create graphs in Grafana.

The idea is simple, and there is an exporter for siad but not for hostd. The committee is excited by the value this grant can provide.
